INEC Press Release for Energy Study
In January of 2025, ISEC was chosen to complete a clean energy generation feasibility study and cost estimate for the Shoshone - Bannock Tribes. This project enabled ISEC to support an important local community with the potential benefits, costs, and long term return on investment of utilizing new clean energy technologies for the Fort Hall Reservation. We are honored to have supported the Tribes under The Advanced Energy Consortium (IAEC).
October 28, 2021, The Egyptian Theatre, Boise, Idaho: ISEC hosted the Boise premiere of Ocean to Idaho, the creation of trailblazing outdoor journalist, Kris Millgate. In 2020, Millgate followed thousands of salmon swimming from the mouth of the Columbia River on Oregon’s coast to their spawning grounds in remote Idaho wilderness. Only a few dozen Chinook salmon survive the grueling 850 mile trip through eight dams, four rivers and three states to lay eggs once in Idaho’s Yankee Fork of the Salmon River. Millgate left civilization and her family in the COVID summer of 2020 to live and work solo in a truck-camper combo to capture their story. Through the tales of her personal journey as well as the film, Millgate enthralled the audience at the historic Egyptian Theatre in downtown Boise.
Through mentorship, technical guidance, and applied community projects, ISEC helps students bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world engineering experience. Under the leadership of President and founder Stephanie Walsh, students have contributed to projects involving renewable energy systems, nuclear feasibility studies, and community-focused energy solutions.

“My capstone project focused on designing an alternative energy storage device for renewable energy systems. Because renewable energy sources often depend heavily on batteries for storage, our team wanted to explore a solution with lower environmental impact while still effectively storing energy. We developed a prototype that used raised mass for energy storage and presented our work to the Idaho chapter of ASME.
With Stephanie as a mentor, we received guidance throughout the entire engineering process, including design, calculations, prototyping, testing, and professional presentation. Her mentorship not only strengthened our project, but also helped prepare us for future engineering careers.
That experience expanded further when I later worked with ISEC on the feasibility study for SMRs and microreactors for the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes. While I had worked on student teams before, seeing firsthand how ISEC managed projects, delegated based on individual strengths, and brought together complex technical work into a final deliverable gave me experience that the classroom alone could not provide.
Being part of these projects solidified my passion for the nuclear energy industry and its potential to help meet future energy demands.”
